Dillashaw Opened at -150 Against Barao for Bantamweight Title Rematch.
Please note: Renan Barao is out of Saturday's UFC bantamweight title fight after losing consiousness during weight cut on Friday and is being replaced by Joe Soto. New betting line at LVH SuperBook has champion T.J. Dillashaw -1500 favorite vs. Soto (+850).
In the most highly-anticipated rematch of the year,
bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw will put his title belt on the line
against former champ Renan Barao on Saturday night in the five-round main event
at UFC 177. Dillashaw-Barao II headlines a nine-fight event that will get
underway from Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, with the first preliminary card bout
starting at 4:30 p.m. (PT) on UFC
Fight Pass followed by four more that will be televised on FOX Sports 1 at
5 p.m. before the main card begins on Pay-Per-View at 7 p.m.
Dillshaw (10-2) opened as a -150 favorite (bet $150 to win
$100) at the LVH SuperBook in Las Vegas and registered a fifth-round TKO of
Barao (32-2, 1 No-Contest) via head kick and punches 14 weeks ago in the first
fight between them at UFC 173 that won him the belt. The former finalist on The
Ultimate Fighter 14 - losing to No. 1 flyweight contender John Dodson - has won
six of seven bouts in the UFC since then, with the other setback coming vs. No.
3 contender Raphael Assuncao by split decision last Oct. 9 in Brazil. Assuncao
figures to be next in line for a title shot against the winner here.

Barao, the +130 underdog (bet $100 to win $130) saw his
33-fight unbeaten streak come to a screeching halt against Dillashaw as he was
finished for the first time in his illustrious career. Oddsmakers were so
impressed with the former champ that they had made him a massive -1000 favorite
vs. Dillashaw (+650) in the first fight. But now Barao's state of mind definitely
needs to be questioned going into the rematch after he seemed invincible for
nearly a decade and was beaten up by Dillashaw in losing his belt.
According to UFC commentator Jon Anik, Barao is facing a lot
of pressure to win the rematch, just not quite the level of fellow Brazilian
Anderson Silva, the former UFC middleweight champ who failed to come through in
losing consecutive fights to Chris Weidman. Silva's second loss also resulted
in a gruesome broken leg that he is still recovering from as he looks to attempt
a comeback early in 2015.
"Renan Barao isn't a superstar on the level of Anderson
Silva, so I don't think he's experienced it to that extent," Anik said. "But
make no mistake about it, there's massive pressure on these guys. And I think
for Renan Barao, I'm sure he felt some of that. I feel like maybe it's not the day-to-day
type stuff that you experience in the United States where if you're hopping on
social media, you just can't escape it. I just think he's out to prove that he's
a fighter who dominated the sport for 10 years."
