Memphis 34 Temple 27

Despite getting outgained 531-327, Memphis rallied from a 13-0 deficit to defeat Temple. The Owls committed three turnovers and were just 4-15 on third down. One of the turnovers came on a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown and after getting to within a touchdown in the fourth quarter, Memphis returned a kickoff 95 yards for a score.

UTSA 55 Southern Mississippi 32

UTSA pulled off the huge upset as a 16.5-point underdog even though it was outplayed entirely after the first quarter. The Golden Eagles outgained UTSA 557-532 but allowed the Roadrunners to score a touchdown on their first four drives. They committed three turnovers that led to 10 points and five times they entered UTSA territory and came away with nothing. 

TCU 24 Kansas 23 

TCU dodged a huge bullet as it escaped with a one-point win. Kansas won the yardage battle 470-366 but committed four turnovers and its only two touchdowns came by way of TCU turnovers. The Jayhawks missed a 54-yard field goal as time expired that would have won the game and that was the third straight possession that resulted in a missed field goal. 

Akron 35 Miami Ohio 13 

Miami lost by 22 points despite getting outgained by only 39 total yards. The RedHawks turned the ball over three times in the second half that led to 14 Zips points which broke open a close game. Additionally, the RedHawks were just 1-12 on third down which led to six punts and the two field goals they made came on drives totaling 125 yards.

Navy 46 Houston 40

The Houston playoff chances came to an end with a six-point loss at Navy. The Cougars outgained the Midshipmen 484-382 but turned the ball over three times on three straight possessions including a 34-yard interception that was returned for a touchdown. The other two turnovers led to 10 additional points for Navy which scored on 8 of its 12 possessions. 

Texas A&M 45 Tennessee 38

Tennessee nearly pulled off another come-from-behind victory but fell short in overtime. The Volunteers outgained the Aggies 684-592 but they committed seven turnovers including five fumbles. Three of those fumbles led to 21 points for Texas A&M and after rallying from 21 points down to force overtime, Tennessee tossed a pick in the second overtime to end it.

Oklahoma St. 38 Iowa St. 31

Iowa St. lost a second straight heartbreaker as it was outscored 17-0 in the fourth quarter against the Cowboys after getting outscored 17-0 in the fourth quarter the previous week against Baylor. The Cyclones lost the yardage battle by just 11 total yards but lost the turnover battle 3-0 and two of those turnovers led to 14 points for Oklahoma St.

Alabama 49 Arkansas 30

Arkansas was outgained by just 44 total yards, held a 25-16 first down edge and won the time of possession by over 14 more minutes but failed to win or cover. The Razorbacks had five turnovers which led to 28 Alabama points. The Crimson Tide had a 23-yard fumble recovery in the second quarter and when driving in the fourth, Arkansas tossed a 100-yard pick six.

Kansas St. 44 Texas Tech 38

Texas Tech dominated the stats as it outgained the Wildcats 592-335 and had 12 more first downs but went 0-3 on fourth down. The Red Raiders five touchdown drives were all 68 yards or more which inflated the yardage but they tossed an interception that was returned 35 yards for a touchdown and also gave up a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Idaho 34 UL-Monroe 31

UL-Monroe outgained Idaho 523-414 but was inconsistent with its drives. The Warhawks had 402 yards on their five scoring drives just 121 yards on their other seven possessions. Idaho got its first touchdown on a 19-yard blocked punt return while picking off three passes, two that led to a pair of field goals and a third early in the fourth inside the redzone.
