The NFL Draft has tuned into a spectacle, and
with it ESPN will be in Philadelphia for the 2017 event broadcasting live three
consecutive days of the event.
That's not the big news. The fact that you can
legally wager for the first time on the Draft in Las Vegas is.
Most of the betting action on this year's
event will likely take place in sports books offshore, but because the Nevada
regulators have approved wagers on prop bets, the books will be writing new
business this week - much like the Super Bowl.
In Nevada the more popular NFL Draft
propositions include -
- The total number of Alabama players
selected n the first round: 4.5
- The total number of LSU players selected in
the first round: 2.5
- The total number of SEC players selected in
the first round: 11.5
- The conference to have more first round
selections in the first round: SEC -5.5 vs. PAC 12
- The conference to have more first round
selections in the first round: SEC -4.5 vs. BIG TEN
- The conference to have more first round
selections in the first round: BIG TEN -0.5 vs. PAC 12
- Will there be more offensive or defensive
players selected in the first round: Defensive -5.5
- The total number of quarterbacks drafted in
the first round: 3.5
- The total number of running backs drafted in
the first round: 2.5
- When will the first place kicker be selected
in the draft: Rounds 1-3 or Rounds 4-7
Meanwhile, wagering on individual players and
teams can be found at sports books offshore. They include -
Draft positions for Leonard Fournette (LSU,
RB): 4; O.J. Howard (Alabama, TE): 8.5; Christian McCaffrey (Stanford, RB):
8.5; Patrick Mahomes (Texas Tech, QB): 22.5; Jabrill Peppers (Michigan, LB):
27.5; DeShone Kizer (Notre Dame, QB): 31.5
Note: In his NFL Mock Draft 3.0, ESPN'S Todd
McShay had Fournette going 8th, Howard 4th, and McCaffrey 14th.
He did not have Mahomes, Peppers or Kizer going in the first round.
And finally, Mr. Irrelevant - the last player
selected in this year's draft: Offensive player -105; Defensive Player -105
