Denver Opened as a 7-point Home Favorite Against San Francisco.
The Week 7 NFL Sunday Night Football matchup will feature
two teams coming off nearly identical wins and a future Hall of Fame quarterback
trying to break Brett Favre's NFL career record for touchdown passes. The
Denver Broncos (4-1) and QB Peyton Manning will host the San Francisco 49ers
(4-2), opening as 7-point favorites at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook with
the total set at 51. Those numbers have since come down slightly despite
Manning likely going for three touchdowns or more to set the new league mark (click here to check latest NFL
odds).
The Broncos and 49ers each won 31-17 last week on the road,
and both got interception returns for touchdowns in the final minute to close
out their opponents. Denver beat the New York Jets as a 10-point favorite and needed
that final score to cover the spread while San Francisco defeated the St. Louis
Rams as 3.5-point chalk. These teams have not met since 2010, when they squared
off in London and QB Troy Smith led the Niners to a 24-16 victory as 2-point
favorites. Brandon Lloyd was the leading receiver for the Broncos in that game with
169 yards and one touchdown, and he is now playing for San Francisco.
Lloyd's 80-yard touchdown catch from QB Colin Kaepernick
ignited the 49ers offense at the end of the first half against the Rams, as
they rallied back from an early 14-0 deficit by scoring 24 unanswered points en
route to the win. San Francisco's defense did take a blow though when middle
linebacker Patrick Willis hurt his toe. Willis is expected to miss the game
along with offensive guard Mike Iupati, who suffered a concussion at St. Louis
NFL injury report).
Denver is 2-0 against the spread in its past two games after
starting the season 0-3 ATS, with the total going "over" in two straight
following two consecutive "unders" in the team's previous two games. The
Broncos have yet to play their best game, as all of their opponents have been
within a touchdown of them in the fourth quarter. Manning has thrown seven TD
passes combined over the last two games and will look to dictate the tempo
against the 49ers through the air without much of a running game.
San Francisco has won five of the past seven meetings with
Denver both straight-up and vs. the line, but the team is just 1-4 ATS in its
last five road games against AFC West opponents. The Broncos are 8-3 ATS in
their past 11 home games against NFC West opponents, with the total going "over"
in six straight.
