Celtics And Grizzlies In Sunday Garden Tip

By: Adam Markowitz | Saturday, February 4, 2012

On Sunday, all eyes are going to be glued to the Super Bowl, as the New York Giants and New England Patriots get set to do battle for the Lombardi Trophy. However, that doesn’t mean that there aren't opportunities to strike on some of the other sports on the docket on Sunday afternoon. There are only two games on the slate, but both definitely present some opportunities to cash in.

Fans in the New England area will start off Super Sunday by cheering on their Boston Celtics at home against the Memphis Grizzlies. The C's got off to a slow start to the season, but they have gone 7-1 SU and 5-3 ATS over the course of their last eight games to get back within 3.5-games of the Philadelphia 76ers for the lead in the Atlantic Division.

Paul Pierce is coming off of one of his best games of the season, a 30-point effort in a narrow escape from the New York Knicks on Friday night. Boston's captain has now scored at least 17 points in eight straight games, raising his average up to 18.5 PPG.

The Grizzlies come into this one on a roll, though. They were defeated by the Oklahoma City Thunder 101-94 on Friday, but still managed to beat the NBA betting lines in that clash, giving them three covers in a row. Memphis has covered 11 straight games here at the TD Garden, including pulling off SU victories over the last two seasons here. The road team has won five in a row SU and is 4-1 ATS.

Expect a relatively high scoring clash as well. Though these two teams are only combining for 184.0 PPG this year offensively, the two have played nine of their last 10 meetings past the total. All nine of the 'over' contests featured at least 192 points.

Tip time from Beantown is set for 12:00 (ET), and the game can be seen live on NBA TV.

LeBron James and the Miami Heat are hosting the Toronto Raptors in the only other game on the Sunday NBA slate in a 1:00 (ET) start time from AmericanAirlines Arena.

Toronto has been wildly inconsistent on offense this season; the past three games have seen them bounce all over the scoreboard with point totals ranging from 64 to 106. Obviously, it is going to take a big effort to top the Heat on their home court. Miami ranks No. 2 in the NBA at 103.5 PPG, whereas Toronto is No. 29 at just 86.8 PPG.

Though the Raptors stand 0-5 in this series recently, they have a great history from a betting standpoint. Toronto is 6-2 ATS in its last eight trips to South Beach, and 16-6 ATS in the last 22 games overall against the Heat.

Andrea Bargnani remains out of the fold for the Raptors with a leg injury that has caused him to miss 11 of his last 13 games. The former No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft is the only man on the team averaging more than 14.0 PPG, and his 23.5 PPG and 6.4 RPG will be sorely missed.

The schedule picks back up a 10-game card on Monday, headlined by the two clubs from Los Angeles each playing in key matchups on the East Coast.

Blake Griffin and the Clippers will take on the Magic in Orlando in a 7:00 p.m. (ET) start. Both teams had Saturday contests still pending, with the Magic 6-point road 'dogs at the Indiana Pacers and the Clippers laying 8½ at the Washington Wizards.

Kobe Bryant and the Lakers will be taking on the 76ers in Philadelphia on Monday.  It's the start of a big 3-game homestand for the Sixers who will have the Spurs and Clippers trailing the Lakers.to Philly.  The 76ers were 3½-point underdogs at Atlanta on Saturday while the Lakers were getting 1½-2 in Utah, both of those games still pending.
